Antonhill Football Team Match Reports 02/03 Season
Red-card report
: At the very last minute of the match, the
record was Antonhill 5 and Squadron 3, a high flying long pass went to the
Antonhill's half from Squadron's half. Antonhill's midfielder no.4 Jason
Kwong jumped and headed the ball and Squadron's no.16 came late and crashed
into Antonhill's no.4. Antonhill's no.4 was down on the ground and the
referee blowed his whistle immediately. At the moment, Squadron's no.6
crossed over Antonhill's no.4 and towards the ball just beside the
Antonhill's player and it looked like he was stepping on Antonhill's player
while the referee also believed that. The referee then showed a
red-card to send off
Squadron's no.6 directly. Then he showed the second
yellow-card to Squadron's
no.16 for his dangerous-action and thus followed by a
red-card to send him off. (Pui)

Antonhill emerged winners
over Squadron in an electrifying Sunday clash which fed fans a goal-feast at
Community Sports. Not many games in memory have Antonhill scored that many
goals since promoted to the first division, not even the season they won the
league and cup double a couple of years back. The tranformation of captain
K.P. Ip to forward from midfielder by manager
Ken Law was yet again given the credits as
Ip scored a double while Antonhill's fine finishers were completed by
left-midfielder
C.H. Kwong, midfielder
K.H. Yang and right-winger
C.W. Wu. Antonhill took strong grip of the game from start and they
almost took the lead five minutes into time when
K.H. Yang fired a
Ip's pass straight onto the post. Defensive midfielder
Aries M.C. Chow blasted the rebounced ball right away but it was blocked
by a Squadron player. Minutes later,
C.H. Kwong headed a
Aries M.C. Chow pass inches wide the goal. Squadron then punished
Antonhill for their missed chances. Their striker capitalised on an
Antonhill mistake at the defence and easily put the ball into the net, 1-0.
But Antonhill soon regained their grounds by equalising a mere minute later
when
C.H. Kwong made no mistake this time with his head, converting a
K.H. Yang cross into the net, 1-1. Antonhill thought they have taken
full command of the match when they took a 2-1 lead five minutes before
half-time. Then, Antonhill earned a free-kick just outside the box after
K.H. Yang was fouled.
K.P. Ip smartly struck a low ball into the net through the little space
between the Squadron wall and the near post. Squadron then showed they could
bounce back as strongly as Antonhill by levelling two minutes later, this
time through a penalty shot. Midfielder
K.M. Tsang rose his hands in the air during a Squadron attack inside the
box in an attempt to indicate he had no intention of fouling but the ball
accidentally hit his hand. The referee pointed to the spot without any
hesitation. Antonhill goalie
Ivan K.C. Lee had his hand on the firing shot but it was blasted so hard
that
Lee could only watch it roll into the net, 2-2 at half-time. Two
second-half changes including the introduction of towering forward
Andy K.K. Ng and diminutive right-midfielder
C.W. Wu did wonders for Antonhill as
Wu back-heeled a goal-mouth scramble into the net, 3-2 for Antonhill.
The next two minutes were the most nerve-wrecking for Antonhill as they were
wondering if Squadron would make another dramatic comeback.
K.H. made sure it didn't happen this time as he scored after a
K.P. Ip through ball put him to a solo run and he accomplised the
easiest thing to do facing the goalie. But the two sides made sure there was
one more piece of episode of the nail-biting drama when the ball clear by
Antonhill goalie
Ivan K.C. Lee, whose punches landed on a rising Squadron No.11, fell
straight onto the boot of defender
H.B. Cheng, who mistakenly struck the ball into the goal, 4-3. Any drama
should have a classic finish and it was no exception to this match.
K.P. Ip stole a pass from a Squadron defender, beat him, and curled the
ball into the net at the far post.
Squadron may have had two players received the marching orders but thank you
guys for playing a great game with us. Good game.(

A GOALLESS draw was the best way to start the Year of Goat as a peaceful result was welcomed during the Lunar New Year but it was hardly the ideal result Antonhill hoped for as they had only one and only one target in mind before kickoff - to beat the league leaders. A victory would have been sweet for the Ants because they lost 2-1 to the same young side in a fiercely fought first-round clash. Back on track to their goal of finishing top-three, Antonhill, unbeaten in past few league matches, almost shot to the lead soon after kickoff. Defensive midfielder Aries M.C. Chow saw a deflection from a corner kick fell on his path but sent a volley over the bar. With a strong back line led by sweeper C.W. Kwok, the Colts had barely a clear chance in the first half while Antonhill had another chance 10 minutes before half-time as K.M. Tsang blasted a shot just wide off the post following a Jason C.H. Kwong heading pass. But Antonhill were also relieved to be able to grab a point as they survived a few dangerous attacks from the revitalised Colts in the second half, notably a powerful header from their No 9 forward that hit the post and then rebounced into the way of goalie H.B Cheng. Having settled with two draws in the past two league matches, the Ants should not show mercy to their opponents coming up next. ( Aries Chow )

05 Jan 2003 Antonhill 4 : 1 SFALO (Oxford)
A quiz here: Can a player be
given a yellow card before the kick-off? Antonhill goalkeeper
H.B. Cheng can tell you the answer is "Yes"
Cheng was booked before the match started by the referee for manipulating
damaging the white marks on the penalty box by his boots. The punishment on
him seemed to be a confidence-booster for Oxford as they took the lead only
minutes into the first half when their striker volleyed home past
Cheng after beating a couple of Antonhill players. Oxford was 1-0 up. That
goal served as a good alarm to Antonhill players who manage to begin playing
their own game that helped them record four straight wins and started
dominating the game. In the 20th minute, captain
K.P. Ip handled a free-kick in an unorthodox manner, sending a ground-ball
right into the pack of players in the box, but it paid off.
Gary K.H. Yang looked to be able to read his mind and let the ball roll
inside with only a slight touch. Midfielder
Joe S.M Shek blasted it home from close range to level the score, 1-1.
Antonhill just didn't look back from then on. Five minutes later, Ip chested
down a long pass from left-back K.M. Wong before unleashing it into the net to
make it 2-1 for his team at half-time. Antonhill came out of the "locker room"
stronger as
Ip showed he lived up to his new role as a striker only two minutes into
the second half. He found the net again, sending home from 18 feet after
receiving a pass from
Shek. Antonhill led 3-1. Antonhill didn't end their hammering there. Ten
minutes before the final whistle,
Andy K.K. Ng headed home his first goal since he underwent a knee
operation last year after a nice cross from second-half substitute
Aries M.C. Chow fell on his head, 4-1 for Antonhill. Antonhill would have
won by a even bigger margin had a
Ip left-foot shot from close-range not been saved by a Oxford defender.
Antonhill's five-game winning streak showed their recent reshuffling in
positions has been successful, with towering forwards of
Ip,
Jason C.H. Kwong and
Ng in front and experienced defender
C.W. Kwok switched to sweeper from left-back. We all believe that there is
no reason why we couldn't make an impact for the title contention if we keep
playing the way we did. (

16.12.02 Antonhill 2 - 1 ECA
Antonhill made up for an early season dip and bounced back to title contention after a tricky change of formation gave them their first win in three encounters against ECA. Skipper K.P. Ip wasn't in top form physically after playing a game the previous night but the main reason for a change was that he didn't have a good sleep - he had to stay up in the small hours to take care of his 10 month old baby girl. However, it was all a blessing in disguise. A decision to put him up front in an attempt to reduce his workload as a midfielder paid off as he found himself also comfortable with the role of a striker. Partnering with centre - back - turned - forward Jason C.H. Kwong, the pair proved to be among the tallest Chinese striking combination in town - and it worked wonders. Antonhill had the better ball possession in the first half, with a header from Kwong and a shot from midfielder Ivan K.C. Lee almost found the net. We kept putting ECA under pressure and our efforts bore fruits 12 minutes into the second half when right-winger Gary K.H. Yang made his move in the right flank, beating ECA's goalie before delivering a pass to Ip, who made no mistake to give his team a 1-0 lead. About 10 minutes later, Antonhill more or less settled the matter as it was Yang's turn to score. Forward Andy K.K. Ng, a second-half substitute, sent in a nice cross from the left and Yang swiftly blasted it home from close range, 2-0 for Antonhill. The Ants were however given a scare five minutes from time when ECA got one back but we managed to hold on our lead to the end and recorded our four straight victory. Another win against Oxford this weekend will mean a top-three place for us. ( Aries Chow )

08.12.02 Club Wanderers 1-2 Antonhill By Aries Chow
Jason C.H.Kwong scored a brace of goals to pay back manager
Ken Law's faith in putting him up front as
Antonhill recorded their second straight win and closed up gap with the
top three teams. Having overcoome
Golden Eagles and
Wanderers in the past two weeks,
Antonhill showed they are a team to be reckoned with while another big
test lies ahead on Sunday when they taken on
ECA. Despite a poor start of the season,
Antonhill have pulled themselves together and shaped up, demonstrating
strong team spirit and good formation in recent games. Their win on Sunday
helped them move within three points behind third-placed
Wanderers. Sunday's game showed concentration was all it took to win a
game that mattered. The two sides had to settle for a goalless first half but
Kwong, who played up front in recent games, showed his worth 15 minutes
after changing ends as he blasted home with his "private left leg" after
receiving a long pass. But
Antonhill's lead was short-lived. Second-half substitute
Aries M.C.Chow deflected a Wanderers' header into the net while he
attempted to clear a goal-mouth scramble.
Kwong again rose to the occasion and showed he deserved to win the MVP
award (if there was one) minutes later as he volleyed home a
Joe S.M.Shek right cross which fell right in front of his path, 2-1 for
Antonhill.
Wanderers had a number of chances while
Antonhill also squandered theirs which would have settled the matter
earlier. Skipper
K.P. Ip threw away a big chance in the dying minutes as he blasted his
shot just a few centimetres outside the near post from inside the box.
Antonhill, however, were able to hold on to their lead and three points
were safe in their pockets.

17.11.02 League-7 (Home) Antonhill 0-4 French Dragons By Aries Chow
The big-margin defeat was not doing our team justice. Antonhill had the better ball possession from start and dominated the pace of the game but an early fluke goal from the opponents and somehow the lack of fine finishes handed us the biggest defeat of the season. Of course, we have to give French Dragons credits as they made the most of their chances, having converted four times in about 5 or 6 they had. Antonhill found themselves 1-0 down only 2 or 3 minutes after kickoff when a French Dragons left-flank cross near the bottom touch-line loped goalkeeper Ivan Lee and went into the net in the far post from a narrow angle. No one would believe it was an intended goal. It didn't matter, as we had the better organisation, we all thought. We played the ball at French Dragons half in most of the following 10 minutes or so, but as we pushed forward, French Dragons capitalised on our mistake in the defence. Their forward made an instant half-volley after receiving a right cross which left goalkeeper Ivan Lee stunned again. Soon after the break, Antonhill were 3-0 down as defender K.M. Kwong scored an own goal as he attempted to clear a French Dragons shot. We kept pressing the Dragons hoping to get one back but it was against our wishes. French Dragons capped their epic win after their forward beat goalie Ivan Lee and sent the ball to an empty net. Instead of blames, fury or dismay, Antonhill held their heads high because we played a good game in terms of the flow of the game and variety of play, and we started to find our best formation. There is still a long road head and no one in our team doubt we can finish top three if we keep playing the way we did on Sunday. We will be facing Rising Sun in our opening Cup clash and those who take us lightly have a good chances of having to pay their prices. We are looking to make it to the final three years in a row.

Antonhill
4-0
Standard Chartered By
Aries Chow
Antonhill members were
perfectly clear that they mustn't let the game be decided by penalty shoot-out
having seen their opponents work hard in a pre-game practice on penalty-kick
before their YYL Cup semi-final kicked off on Sunday. While the "Ants",
Cup defending champions, had full confidence about their ability in converting
from the spot, there were good reasons for them to be concerned about a
possible penalty shoot-out. The challengers from the fourth division won three
of their previous Cup victories, including an upset against First Division's
Squadron, on penalty shoot-out. It
didn't take
Antonhill long to find
out why
Standard Chartered can make their
way through by winning on penalty shoot-out -- their goalkeeper was much
better than he looked and saved a few shots which deserved to be goals.
Antonhill dominated the
game almost from start and their efforts were quickly replied with
right-winger
G. Yang scored through a corner-kick. Yang
converted a goal-mouth scramble after defender R. Chair's header was blocked.
Antonhill extended their
lead to 2-0 before half-time thanks to yet another corner-kick attack.
R. Chair should have won the best
supporting player award had there been one as his shot was deflected before
J. Kwong did the most easiest job in
front of the goal.
Antonhill were also given
a few scares with the most dangerous threats coming from
Standard Chartered right flank. But
Standard Chartered were then
punished for their failing to convert the few chances they had as the "Ants"
settled the matter and dashed their opponents' hope of making a comeback early
in the second half when left-midfielder
I. Lee made it 3-0. Forward
J. Shek added icing on the cake by
putting one more goal at the back of their opponents' net after captain
K.P. Ip intentionally missed a pass
from the left. With
Antonhill being out of
contention for the League title, they know they now have the advantage of
being able to concentrate on their Cup title defence when they take on league
leaders
French Dragons in the final next
month.

03. Mar., 2002(Sun) Antonhill 2-0 USRC By Aries Chow USRC, despite languishing at the bottom end of the first division, who dominated for most of the game while Antonhill had to put 10 player in their own half particularly after they took an early lead in the first half. That win may not have been significant for Antonhill's places in the league as there is no realistic title hope for them, it served as a confidence-boast ahead of their YYL Cup semi-finals. In a fast-paced and physical game, Antonhill took the lead through captain Ivan Mak, who volleyed home a goal-mouth scramble. USRC kept Antonhill chasing the ball for the rest of the game but they appeared to have pushed in front too much and it had a price to pay in the last few minutes when striker K.H. Yang outpaced a USRC defender and fired home a nice-taken shot, beating the USRC goalie who previously saved two dangerous shots from Y.W. Poon and Joe S.M. Shek. Antonhill striker Aries M.C. Chow also had a chance to add to the scoresheet when his shot hit the bar. We also believe USRC, led by their mid-fielder NO 2, can do well in the rest of the season and beat any team if they can convert their chances to goals.
Red-card report
The game was playing at
HKSI on 20/01/02 and the opponent was
White Youth. In around 15 minutes
after the game started, one White Youth mid-filed player was controlling the
ball at the left line in the White Youth side, and our AntonHill captain K. P.
Ip is going to tackle the ball. The ball was bounce outside with Ip last
touching. It was a perfect tackle without foul. But after the ball was out, the
While Youth player was keep pushing Ip outside the pitch. Ip was just trying to
come back to the pitch. However, the White Youth player can't control his temper
and try to hit Ip. Ip was trying to leave away from that White Youth player. At
this moment, both team players come and immediate separte both of them.
Finally, the refree gave red cards to both. However, Ip did nothing wrong but he
had been sent out! Ricky
The Red-card report during a match which
saw Antonhill beat
University 2-0 on 14 October
2002, Sunday, is as follows:
Five minutes before the final whistle, when Antonhill was leading 2-0
overUniversity, University forward No 25 attacked on the left-flank of
Antonhill's defence and was tackled by Antonhill centre back Jason Kwong. Kwong
cleared the ball to the baseline and at the same time University No 25 bumped at
him. Kwong shouted at him and another Antonhill defender Cheng Hon-bong, in an
attempted to protect his teammate, pushed University No 25 at his shoulder.
Cheng was shown the red-card and was sent off. There was no further bookings on
Kwong and University No 25, who had booked earlier in the match, for this
incident. The match was then played on with University being given a corner.
